A STORM on June 26 had caused five Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) power poles at Kampung Parit Kassan in Ledangto collapse. The poles were located along an embankment at the village's canal.
It is believed the poles fell due to the soil erosion caused by the heavy downpour that began at 2am. Kampung Parit Kassan village head Mohd Hamzah Basar said he noticed the fallen poles as he was heading to Bukit Gambir town at 7am that day.
"A heavy downpour since 2am had caused soil erosion and the poles ended up falling, some landing in the canal.
"Thankfully, the electricity supply to the area was not affected. TNB has been informed about the incident and repair works are under way," Mohd Hamzah said. Meanwhile, low-lying areas in several villages and housing estates in Bukit Gambir were inundated by a flash flood that followed the four-hour downpour.
A check at Taman Sri Jaya and Bukit Gambir showed that their newly-built drains could not cope with high volume of rain water.
A lot of stagnant water flooded the houses and shops as the water was unable to drain out of the area.
A private clinic assistant, Siti Pauzana Jalal, 27, said the flash floods also hit her workplace.
She said clinic staff scrambled to clean up the premises after the floods subsided later in the morning. |
